About Us

Who We Are
Curious Mortals was established in 2025 by Jenny Watt.
Jenny has been working in the field of death, dying and bereavement for many years. During this time she has seen the power of flipping the narrative around these topics to promote good conversations which enable people to advocate for themselves and live life to the fullest.
Not content with ensuring all her friends and family share their views and wishes with each other, Jenny hopes to get the whole of the West Coast to start the conversation about future planning and break the taboos which have caused death and dying to become words that are whispered in fear, rather than openings into a conversation that goes to the very heart of what it means to be human.
In 2022 she established a permanent death café in the Southside of Glasgow, and continued to create other cafes over the next few years. Now Curious Mortals is bringing all of these together, with the aim of helping to create a city full of compassionate and death-positive citizens.

What We Do
Our mission is to build spaces and communities that support one another, through the good, and not-so-good times. Through open and honest conversations we can explore our own relationship with some of life's big moments, and no topic should be off the table! We have big plans for Curious Mortals, but to get there we have to start somewhere...
So what are we doing RIGHT NOW?
The first taboo we want to smash is talking about death. It's the one thing that's guaranteed, so why are so many of us reluctant to talk about it? Between running Death Cafes and community events, we hope to give people the opportunity to learn from each other, empowering everyone to make choices that are right for them and understand what is important to the people that matter to them.
